An imperial affliction is
Hazel favorite book. The book is about a girl named Anna who lives in California
and gets a blood cancer. There is a lot of drama scenes in that book with
Anna’s cancer and her mother's romantic story with a Dutch man. The book ends right
in the middle of a sentence. I was surprised that Hazel is so obsessed with the
book and reads it million times, and she does not know the ending! Also she has
many questions about Anna and other characters. That is really grabbed my
attention because if I were her, I would be so mad that I spent a lot of
time reading a book that has six hundred fifty-one pages with no ending. While I was reading, I was interested to know Hazel's explanation
about loving a book with no ending. “ I understood the story ended because Anna
died or got too sick to write and this mid sentence thing was
supposed to reflect how life really ends and whatever,…” this is Hazel's explanation and she barley persuaded me. At the end, it was really interesting
to know Hazel's perspective about her favorite book because now I know
more about the main character's complicated personality.

My reaction:
Chapter 2 focuses on the two main characters Hazel and Augustus. What surprised me when I was reading yesterday is when Augustus talks with Hazel about basketball and the prizes he got. He said that most of the prizes are " cancer perks". people who give these prizes to kids with cancer think that these gifts will make them happy, but some kids might feel that they are different.

I really enjoyed the extensive reading
in the class because it gives me the opportunity to do something I like which I
cannot do at home because I don’t have time. The part I read was good, and
there was something stuck in mind. There is a character in the story his name is
“ Isaac” who is suffering from eye cancer. After several weeks he has to get eye surgery and will be totally blind!
That makes me think about how his life will be after he becomes blind? And
how he will spend these days before the surgery? Finally, I cannot wait until I continue reading to find answers to my questions!

I only read part of chapter one, so I cannot judge the book now. However, this part gives me a brief information about the main characters in the story. Also, I want to complete the first chapter to have a general introduction about the novel and know more about the characters.
