Football

Sport has been important to the world from many years since it has been the major factor to entertain people all around the world. Americans’ favorite sport in the past and now is football. American football is a team sport played by two teams each team contains of 11 players. People especially Americans love playing, watching, or participating in any events that are related to football no matter how busy they are. According to my partner in Foxdale, in his college life, students were obsessed with this game, and they would do anything just to be part of a football event despite the homework or exams they had. Before I came here to State College I read that Penn State has one of the best football teams. Moreover, there are many important games are held in the university’s stadium. I was thinking that only football fans from State College or from other places are interested in such events and not college students since they are busy most of the time. However, after I came here I recognized how football is important and can affect everyone and everything in State College. For example, all the people know about the games schedule, the tickets finish quickly, and the streets become crowded. Tim Reynolds (2010) said, “I understand I understand how passionate fans are about sports”.
Penn State Nittany Lions football team is the main team which presents the Pennsylvania state university. Nittany lions is one of the greatest and strongest teams that has won many games and competed with other well-known teams. “ Expectations for Penn State’s football team are always high, just like they are at any school with a football program with as rich history as Penn State’s” (Cassavell, 2010). According to La Vie 1948, that 1947 was a victorious year because Nittany Lions team completed a nine-game without a tie or defeat which was the first time since 1921. In 2010, Penn State has won many games with other teams such as Temple, Kent State, Minnesota, Michigan, and many others. Also, Nittany Lions still winning games against other teams.
In conclusion, I realized that college students could be influenced by their surroundings, and they can balance between studying and football. Also, I could see the changes in football throughout the years.

Foxdale trip!

Today’s trip is the second trip that I have been involved in this semester. Last week I visited Radio park elementary school with my oral communication classmates. I was so excited to meet kindergarten students and spend a day with them. In contrast, I was not excited to visit Foxdale as much as I was excited to visit the school. Before we went to Foxdale trip, I had some concerns like asking them questions that they don’t feel comfortable to talk about, or how I can start the conversation. Therefore, I was a little bit nervous when we arrived.

After we went there, everything changed and my fears disappeared. I really spent a good time with beautiful Dutch couples who were glad to meet and talk with me and Roqayah. We talked about different topics such as Holland where they come from, Saudi Arabia, their hobbies, politics, majors, why they came to Foxdale care and many many things. Also, they showed us the dinning hall and the art room since we were talking about drawing.
The time went to fast, so the challenge thing was how we can arrange our time to discuss different topics. At the end of our meeting they encouraged as to work hard in order to achieve our goals and to complete our academic studies.

My advice to future IECP students is they should be comfortable and don’t hesitate to ask any question because they are glad to answer.

At the end, I can say that I enjoyed my time at Foxdale more than at school. Also, I will never forget this amazing experience, and I will never forget those kind couples!

Field trip

Before we went to the trip I was so excited to meet the kids since I love kids, and I always enjoy playing and talking with them. However, I was afraid that they don’t like the story that we chose “ Sophie’s squash” because it is a long story. Nevertheless, when we went there I was very glad about how the teachers and the kids were so excited to meet us. Moreover, the kids liked the story and asked us many questions about it. Also, they talked about themselves and how they love eating vegetables. After we finished reading the story, two beautiful girls wanted to read a story for us, but unfortunately there was no time for reading another story. I was surprised that they could read because they are just 4 or 5 years old. The best time of the day was the recess because we spent that time playing with kids outside.

In my country, Saudi Arabia, the kindergarten and elementary schools are usually separated unless in private schools. In addition, girls and boys are separated in public elementary schools.

At the end, IECP students who will go to such trips that required involving with kids should show kids that they are excited to spend a day with them and prepare some activities for the kids to break down barriers.
